A million miles with Jesus

Martha Olawale

“As for you, if you walk before me faithfully as David your father did, and do all I command, and observe my decrees and laws, I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with David your father when I said, ‘You shall never fail to have a successor to rule over Israel.” 2 Chronicles 7:17-18

I was fifteen when I became a Christian, a high school student with little to worry about and a limited understanding of the world. I knew very little about life then but what I knew was enough to endear my will to the love of God. Somehow, there was deep assurance that Christ was more committed to me than any relationship I know. Although I had my parents to provide for my needs and take care of me, Jesus brought something to the table that even at that young age no one could give me—peace and eternal hope.

Getting on my knees and asking Jesus to be my Lord that afternoon was the first step in a million-mile journey. All I know was, from that moment, I was never going to be alone. Something changed in me that day because no longer was I abandoned in my teenage whirlwind world, left to figure life out. I had a guide to walk me through the thorny terrains of life and a constant friend to lean on.

The journey of faith starts with repentance and total surrender to the will of God. A journey Christ walks with you, with endless grace and mercy. He knows where you’re coming from and where each turn in your life leads. Even if you miss it, God knows how to reroute you to your spot in destiny and project Heaven’s light on your path.

Since I placed my little hands in the mighty hands of Christ and trusted Him to lead me, He has never let go. Through the plains; the mountain tops; the valleys and the hills, He is the sun that shines through the thick cloud and the anchor when the billows roll. I am joyfully resolved that I will walk a million miles, a million years with Jesus than to take a single step without Him.
