As it pertains to life and godliness
Martha Olawale
“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” 2 Peter 1-3
Our adoption into the family of God comes with a visa to journey to Heaven with the help of the Holy Spirit. Peter was speaking specifically to the Church in 2 Peter 1. Talking about walking in God's divine nature and continuing his call for godly living, he said in 2 Peter 1:4, “Through these, he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”
In an effort to walk the imaginary thin line between enjoying life and pleasing Christ, we fall prey to the perils of our desires, allowing them to hold us captive to emotions already conquered at the cross. There are no lines between pleasing God and enjoying the fullness of life; the fullness of life comes from walking with Jesus and measuring our lives' worth on the scale of godliness. And it is only by walking with Him, that our synergy sings in perfect harmony.
Until we begin to put every aspect of our lives in light of godliness, they will always misalign on the balancing scale of their worth. God is a perfector and loves to see His children thrive, but we must live fully by Him and not in spite of Him. When we look at the world around us through the lens of godliness, we approach the brokenness plaguing it with empathy instead of condemnation and hands clamped in prayer instead of fists ready to fight.
Living in godliness means God is at the center of every decision, thought, action, or reaction. It means the job you wake up early to go to each day will become more about contributing to the world God blessed you with and not just a place to make a living from or endure. It means raising your children will be more missional and less burdensome. It means you will see your spouse through the eyes of the Father and treat them more intentionally as equal heirs of Christ.
While no formulas excuse us from going through difficult seasons, living life through the lens of godliness puts things in a clearer perspective. It helps us define the trying seasons as training grounds and breakthroughs and triumph seasons as praising grounds. It leads us to enjoy all God purposed for us and ride through bumping roads in anticipation of a better tomorrow.
