“Therefore, the Lord God said: “Look, I have laid a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; the one who believes will be unshakable.”  Isaiah 28:16

Life is like a balancing act. We each live like circus performers trying to walk from one end of a suspended rope to the other. We have our hands stretched out, trying to travel a distance on a plank placed on a rolling ball. A simple distraction can send you flying in the air or down a spiral fall and no matter how firmly you hold the balance stick, you need all your senses to make it to the finish line.

To say we live in an unstable world is putting it mildly. Even if you get your personal life in order, you are surrounded by so much confusion and uncertainty, that it places you back in the bubble. Two fractions can’t even agree on what is right and what is wrong and the laws that govern our daily living are shaky and dependent on who’s at the helm of affairs.

Like most people, I thought I had my life figured out and that Christ only needed to take the back seat. But as I grew in my walk with Him, I realize that it was safer for me to switch the role and let Him do the driving while I ride along. That way, I know that when I get in a jam, He’ll help me out.

While there are certain laws of life that are constant, there is so much nitty-gritty that is beyond our control. You might get the best education and still struggle to keep your bank flowing. You might marry the perfect man or woman and keep fighting for your marriage to stay afloat. You can raise your children in church and still deal with a prodigal episode. There are just so many parts to keeping your balance that it takes God for you to stay stable.

Being a child of God sets you apart, it gives you a soft landing on the solid rock of Christ. He is the firm foundation on which any life can thrive, the rock of ages, and the essence of our existence. Although being a Christian does not get you off the balancing act of life, it affirms your safety as you walk through the tight rope. Even when you fall, your father will catch you before you reach the ground.
