For Africa: Blessed Assurance

Martha Olawale

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty… He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Psalm 91:1,4

God has been dealing with me recently, reminding me of His might and majesty. There is nothing more significant than the power of God, and He can do above all we can ask or think. I am a child of God, and it is He who made the Heavens His throne and the earth His footstool. He can move hills, change hearts, level mountains, and calm storms.

Living in the United States, it’s easy to be clouded by economic and social possibilities and hide behind the working systems of my geography. America can make it easy to forget that I got to where I am, and I’ll get to where God is leading me only by His strength. God fought for me in situations beyond my strength, bringing peace to my uproar. I know that walking with Him trumps all worldly promises because I have witnessed Him do amazing things in impossible situations and turn emptiness into abundance.

I was reading an article by Pastor David Jeremiah, and he referenced a conversation between an African Chief and an American Missionary. The missionary asked why African churches see more miracles than American churches. The chief replied, “In America, you have blessed insurance; in Africa, we have only blessed assurance!

If we look at Africa through the eyes of the economy, politics, and leadership, nothing works the way it should. However, as Christians, when we look at Africa through the eyes of God and what He’s doing in His church, we’ll see that the mighty hand of God has never failed us. The fire for God is burning brightly in the hearts of many, and His praise ascends to the Heavens even when the enemy pursues behind. The church of Jesus in Africa is growing, and Christians are walking in the calling of God over their lives.

The Church of Christ in Africa is a catalyst for some of the world's most remarkable global exploits: science, engineering, mathematics, and social sciences. Despite the limitations and the lack of access to credit lines, of the top ten, five of the largest pentecostal church auditoriums in the world are in Africa. Many young Christians who grew up understanding who they are in God are walking with God across the globe, making a difference in their fields of study, and raising a generation of children positioned to change the world for the glory of the Father. The Jesus factor is changing this generation's mindset to live beyond past generations' faults and walk with integrity and empathy for others.

To the wailing mothers of Africa, wipe your tears, for the Lord is strong on your behalf, and He will keep you safe and watch over your children and your children’s children. He will heal the land and restore your wasted places. God is your blessed assurance, your resting place. He will make something out of your nothing and crown your princes with honor. Regardless of the noise from the noisome pestilence surrounding your nations, they will bow to the roar of the Lion of Judah. He is your refuge, your shelter from the storm, and He will save you.
