Only possible by God
Martha Olawale
“How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death so that we may serve the living God!” Hebrews 9:14
Thinking about the complexity of humanity, the conflicts, divisions, and confusion, the simplicity of following Christ is the single choice in life that gives it meaning. People make choices that seem impossible for our mortal minds to fathom daily, yet we don’t question the authenticity of their human nature. They steal, kill, maim, and destroy, yet they are one of us, no matter how cruel their actions are.
However, God has been consistently God, yet we question His existence. He made eternity before the beginning of time and the universe too vast to reach, yet we question His majesty. He has held this world together despite all our misgivings, yet we question the authenticity of His sovereignty. He gave up His majesty to walk among us and died cruelly at the hand of His creations, yet we doubt His love. He offered forgiveness before we learn to conquer our sins, yet we question His mercy. He gives strength to the simple, yet we question His grace.
God does not have to do anything to prove Himself to humanity because everything already proves His wholesomeness. Our past, present, and future existence speaks to the authenticity of who He is. Without God, there will be no us; without Christ's cross and death, there would be no atonement for our sins, and without His resurrection, there would be no hope. Romans 5:6 says, “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.”
If I can accept that a man wicked enough to kill another man for his car or his wife shares the same human nature with me, I can absolutely accept that the peace and hope I feel deep inside me is only possible by God. He made me, so I dare to live for Him. Although the authenticity of God's sovereignty speaks through the ages, and the beauty of His glory lines the width and depths of the earth, the love of Jesus speaks louder in my soul. And while the wonders of the galaxies sing His praise, all the fibers of my being where no one can reach or touch sing louder.
