Thanksgiving: for another day

Martha Olawale

“I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness; I will sing the praises of the name of the Lord Most High.” Psalm 7:17

The saddest place a person can be is a place void of God. A place where the vitality of the work of redemption accomplished on the cross at Calvary eludes the mind. A place saturated with the presence of self instead of the dominance of the Holy Spirit.

For all the reasons beyond man’s definition, I am grateful for another day to wake up and call myself a daughter of God, a Zion princess, or, more importantly, God calls me His. While some days might be cloudier than others and the waves I’m riding on a little too high sometimes, I stand amazed at the goodness of my Father. He is steadfast and faithful and holds me above all the moving parts of my life.

I am grateful that in God’s grand plan for eternity, He counted me worthy to share His love with my world. He is one constant good in my life and the essence of every breath I take. The Psalmist said, in Psalms 111:7-9, “The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy. They are established forever and ever, enacted in faithfulness and uprightness. He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever— holy and awesome is his name.”

While the world is far from perfect, and some days are downright too much to handle, I am grateful for all the things that warm my weary heart and give me a reason to reach for tomorrow. Despite all the shoves and pulls, He anchors me to the foundation of my redemption in Christ. But for God, there’ll be no reason to hope, no trace of peace or place to hide.
