Blessing in the rain

“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there,
But water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the Sower
and bread to the eater.” Isaiah 55:10

There is so much beauty in flowers! I believe they are one of our world’s greatest creations and I love surrounding myself with them. I love the colors they add to life and the calm looking at them brings. But to bud and flourish, flowers need both the cooling of water and the warmth of the sun, and most flowers can’t survive without both.

It’s been raining through the night and as I stepped out of my house, I saw the bushes of mum’s flowers outside the door looking tired and droopy. At first glance, it’s easy to assume they were dead and should be trashed. But, because I know a few things about flowers, I knew they’ve been nourished by the rain and only needed the sun to shine on them to maximize the blessing of the rain and bloom brightly.

Before the beauty of the sunshine on the buds of a flower, there must be mud in the root. While there is so much blessing in the rain, it comes with a cloud and when we go through a rainy season in life, the weight might overwhelm us and leave us tired. But if we are rooted in Christ, He’ll hold us up.

Maybe all you can feel right now are the sting and the weight of the rain, just remember that through it, God is doing something inside of you. He is setting you up for the sunny days ahead because He knows that if you only get the sunshine of life, you will dry up and your roots will rot. The people looking at you might think you are not worth much or rule you out of the game of life. They can conclude that the glory of God over you will never shine again. But your story is not over because the blessing in the rain is reaching your roots to nourish you and when the sun shines on you, they will see you bloom again.
