Easter:  For the love of Christ

Martha Olawale

“And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.” Romans 5:5-6

The outpouring of God’s love comes with a wave higher than any sin. It is powerful enough to drown every opposition, yet gentle enough to soothe all life’s aches. It meets us where we are and empowers us to be all God has purposed for us. God’s love is transforming, echoing the Father’s heart with joy in the darkest night and rest in the brightest day.

2 Corinthians 5:14 says, “For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died.” The weight of the sin of all, past, present, and future rested on one man because the Bible says that one died for all. So then, if one died for the sake of all, we all live for the sake of one.

With all the mess and pain that came with it, the cross symbolizes our victory. On it, the Son of God laid it all down: His pride, His glory, and His majesty, for our reconciliation and redemption. For our salvation, Jesus gave up His splendor and majesty and subjected Himself to humanity’s wickedness and ridicule.  He carried a cross He didn’t deserve and died in the hands of those He loved beyond measure. It is then through this love and only for this love that we can receive eternal life. Easter is our victory story because it epitomizes God’s love through the death of His one and only son.
