If you are a child of God
Martha Olawale
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.” Isaiah 49:15-16
Knowing who you are is the bedrock of whom you become. Growing up, my parents will always tell us to remember the daughter/son of whom we are. Although not present with us all the time, they want us to carry the silent creed of the family everywhere we go and to behave in manners that affirm our upbringing. The values my parents instilled in me play a huge role in how I approach the world around me.
While we don’t always do everything to honor people who have poured godliness into us, the consciousness of where we come from and who we are, determines how we relate with the world around us. It affects what we believe to be true and what is not. It fuels “the value of you,” forming your identity, and serves as the root from which your life sprouts.
A mother can forget her newborn child, but God can never forget you. Understanding who you are in Christ releases you from the bondage of seeking your identity in places they don’t exist. It gives your spirit strong, beautiful wings to soar and your weary soul a resting place. Knowing God is your Father calms your storms and fans your sails on the ocean of life.
If you are a child of God, you don’t have to live in other people’s illusion of whom they believe you are or what they believe your worth is. You are a son/daughter of the Almighty, the Yahweh, the ruler of the past, present, and eternity. Your name is written in the palm of God’s hands and there is no moment He is not mindful of you, your struggles, triumphs, disappointments, and victories. His love for you spans beyond the imagination of any man and runs deeper than the deepest end of the sea.
