Let Jesus make you

Martha Olawale

Matthew 4:19 “And He said unto them, follow me and I will make you…”

Think for just a minute and list in your mind’s eye the number of people who have risen to stardom, loved by millions, praised by nations, and fallen from their lofty heights. At some point in their lives, they feel on top of the world, untouchable and unmovable. It’s like the universe is at their beck and call because of the possessions gained through their worldly approval, but when it all crashes, they live relegated to oblivion.

So often, we get sucked up into the tiny hole of the applause of a crowd ignoring the cautions of the only person that counts, Jesus. We pour all resources into seeking people's approval instead of learning to live in honor of God. People you call friends today are not guaranteed to answer the title tomorrow because worldly measurable things weigh your value to them.

God is a master at making ordinary people into extraordinary, history-changing humans. Those who stay with God until the end always emerge winners. How they end will always be better than how they started because we experience continued transformation as we walk with God.

It is rewarding to walk with God, following in Jesus’ footsteps because He moves us from grass into glory to higher glory. 2 Corinthians 3:18 says, “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” While change is imminent from the moment we carry our cross and follow Jesus, God celebrates every growth and gives grace for every error.

Let Jesus make you because if the world makes you, it can break you. If Jesus makes you, they might shove, pull, bash, and come against you, but they can’t break you. A person who lives for God will die with a million gains, and a person who lives for a million gains will die with no gain at all. The ordinary becomes extraordinary in God’s hands, so give them all to Him. Even death is defined as gain by Paul in Philippians 1:21; you are eternally wealthy as one who follows Christ.
