Something about God’s presence

Martha Olawale

“You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand”. Psalm 16:11

There is just nothing like God’s presence. In Exodus 33, God told Moses to lead the Israelites to the promised land without Him. He told him that although He would not go with them, the land would be flowing with milk and honey and that He would send His angels ahead of them. Despite the promises, Moses refused to lead the Israelites into the land until God said in verse 14 “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” He understood that without God’s presence they were just like any other tribe. He knew no amount of prosperity can replace God’s presence because His presence is greater than all the angels of Heaven put together.

The peace that comes from God’s presence is unmatchable and there is no wealth, health, or fame that can substitute His presence. Dwelling in God’s presence renews our strength for whatever the world throws at us. It sets our mind on Him and eases the burden off our shoulders for Christ to handle.

Starting each day in His presence renews my strength for the journey. It makes me see Him in the rays of light that break through the dawn when I wake in the morning and the cloud that blankets the sky as I lay to sleep at night. His presence calms my fears and gives me wings to fly above all adversities. I can say without any doubt that going with God alone is better than having all the armies of the world behind me. He is constant, merciful, and gracious.

Understanding the power of God’s presence affords us the ability to subdue the overwhelming tug of war that we go through each day. His presence keeps our minds flooded with an ocean of joy that can only come from knowing that the creator of heaven and earth is on our side. It reminds us we are never alone, and that the God of the universe stands right by us as we go through the dark tunnels of life and stand on lighted mountain tops.
