The end game? We win!
Martha Olawale
Life is a battleground, a mysterious obstacle course filled with thorns, muddy paths and “unthreadable” turns. The lights on the trails come on and off without warning and different forces throw darts at you as you journey through. While each person’s course might look different from others, we all have to navigate through the highs and lows of it. No matter who you are or your earthly worth, there is a piece of the action to go around.
Most people approach their unmapped paths defeated and deflated because they depend on their strength. They rely on human abilities, wisdom, wealth and riches to carry them through the confusing maze. However, even after we master the art of “making it work,” our feeble legs waver under the pretense because they are incapable of sustaining the weight of it all.
Each time my life takes an unexpected turn, there is always that overwhelming sense of “not again.” I wish the light of life would stay on all the time with the birds singing and people praising. But just when I think I have finally pulled through, heave a sigh of relief and get ready to take a long nap, the battle alarm rings again.
If it weren’t for Christ, life would have screwed me in and left me for vultures to feed on.
If our stories are anything like the Avengers movies, the end would be predictable—the good guys win, and the bad guys get knocked down by Thor or smashed by Hulk. However, the perfect end to any man or woman’s life has nothing to do with our self-virtues or moral accolades.
His devotion to His saints explains the unrelenting faith we have at the heart of the battle. Despite the weight and pain, deep within, there is an unshakable assurance of God’s presence with us, even when we are confined to a corner. Jesus said in John 16:33 (NIV) “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Knowing that we win, no matter how long the battle lasts, puts us way ahead of the game.
We are not ignorant of what the world throws at us because Christ prepared us for the battle.
As His redeemed, we need this constant reminder that irrespective of our present or future battle state, God wants us to relax and enjoy the ride on His wings. Deuteronomy 31:6 states, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Guaranteed, through His death and resurrection, our victory was perfected in Christ. Although this life is momentary, God is with us every step we take. The creator of Heaven and earth stands on our side of the battle, and despite all the forces fighting against us, as heirs to the throne of grace, WE WIN!
The perfect ending can only be scripted by the blood of Jesus and only in Him can anyone find true peace. Martha Olawale
