Where are you going?

Martha Olawale

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” Proverbs 14:12

If you ask most motorists on the highway where they are driving to, they’ll probably give you the specific place they intend to eventually stop the vehicle after the drive. Hardly will you find anyone driving without a defined destination. Even if they’ve never been to their intended destination before, they are driving with the aim of getting to a specific place and for a specific reason.

I’ve moved a few times in my life and each time, it’s always a challenge navigating my new neighborhood. I have to figure out the best routes to church, the grocery store, and other places essential to my family thriving in our new community. The most challenging is driving the kids somewhere without their knowing exactly where they are going. The first minute you make a turn to an unknown road, they are restless. Until they understand and become familiar with the buildings and other landmarks in our neighborhood, they will keep asking, “Where are we going?”

Life is a journey, a journey that starts without your consent but depends on your choice to accept or reject Christ to determine where the journey ends. But most of us are driving through life without a clear understanding of where we are heading. We are moving in the shadows of other people, not taking the time to ask ourselves where our choices today lead us in eternity.

You do not get on the road and just follow the motorists before you without knowing what their intentions are or where they are headed. Even if everyone around you is heading towards the out-of-order road, if you know it leads to a sharp drop, you will not follow just because it’s crowd approved. You have a choice to choose where your life ends and it deserves taking a deep mental dive to choose right. You either hand it over to Jesus or go with the world’s flow. Either way, there is life beyond where we can reach in our mortal state, and we can lock our destination to Heaven’s gate now before we reach eternal oblivion.
