Where God leads

Martha Olawale

“The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people, and your father’s household to the land I will show you.” Genesis 12:1

Imagine what the outcome of Abram’s disobedience would have been. When God told Him to leave his familiarity to head to a destination he’s never been to; he had the choice to stay or to go. He chose to obey, and due to that decision, he got a new name and opened the door to impacting many generations after him. Through trust, he lived up to what God said in Genesis 17:5 “No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations.”

I’ve tried to guide God many times instead of following where He leads; the outcome is never fun. My human brain draws the map based on my understanding, leaving out God’s will on each road I’ve paved for myself instead of allowing Him to lead as I go. While He has been faithful, even in my wrong turns, I’ve only known satisfaction when walking on the steps He lays. Now I know that if I walk through the fire if God leads, I’m okay, and if I stand on the mountaintop or lie in the valley below if God leads, I’m okay.

Where God leads may come with some discomfort and uncertainty, but where He leads will always come with peace. Like Abram, when God calls us out of our comfort zone, His presence will guide us to a destiny that will outlive us. Today, as Christians, we still regard ourselves as descendants of “Father Abraham,” just as God promised him because He obeyed.

There are destinies resting on your obedience and broken places waiting to be mended, so trust God and allow Him to enlarge your coast. God’s perfect will is where He wants you to be. If you don't stay or go where God wants you to, you can't do all God wants you to do or positively affect the people He wants you to impact. While God's presence will follow us to the darkest ends, His perfect will for us is where He wants us to be, and in that lies our absolute satisfaction.
