Worth more than many sparrows
Martha Olawale
“And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:30-31
In a world filled with castles of pride, where people always want to find a way to put themselves above others, it’s important to know who you are as a child of God. The value man places on you can not compare to the worth God places on you. David was privy to this mystery and enjoyed a relationship with God in a way that defied man’s interference. Even when he missed the mark, he understood the depth of the Father’s love, and he knew God would never leave nor forsake him.
I have been guilty of mind-bidding for people’s worth, and I have had my share of walking into a room and the people in it placing a price on me because they believed they knew me based on what they could see. Because she’s a woman, she’s worth this; because of the color of her skin, she’s worth this because she has this level of education, she’s worth this. However, when you put all the worldly attributes together and place them on a scale, it still can’t compare to a drop of the ocean of love the Father places you.
Living to please man instead of God wastes affection because you can never match up to man’s demands, yet you are worth more than a million of it. To rise in the morning knowing who you are in the eyes of your Father pushes you beyond the limits of satisfaction established by man’s broken nature. It reminds you that although you might be going through an alley of uncertainty, you know that God’s love will walk you through it.
Regardless of your situation, where you live or work, what you look like, which country you’re from, or the dollar amount in your bank, you are treasured. Praying in Psalm 17:8, David said, “Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.” He knew he was the apple of God’s eye and prayed that God should keep him there. Knowing you are the apple of God’s eyes puts your value in a clearer perspective.
Stop moving to the drumbeats of man’s illusion of who you are; they don’t know you. You are worth more than any mind can fathom. Start dancing to the songs of Heaven because your Father’s heartbeat is filled with love for you. God is mindful of you. Every tear, every smile, and every moment of your life count in Heaven’s calendar because you are worth more than many sparrows.
