You are enough!
Martha Olawale
If you’ve ever filled out one of those forms, informing people about yourself; at the DMV, the passport office, or at the bank, your identity is summed up with about ten checkmarks. You are defined by the color of your skin, your age, your address, your salary range, your gender, and a few more things. I’ve checked those boxes so many times and I have default responses to each of the questions without needing to read them.
In fairness, the questions are a great representation of you, at face value. However, there is so much more to a person than others can see. There is a story before the story and many stories within the story. The journey did not start the day you were born, it started with you and God as the main characters of a bestseller. Before He formed you, God knew you. Your life is not a chance event but a masterpiece in the hands of your creator.
Before becoming the great prophet, it was difficult for Jeremiah to accept his mission. He didn’t even think he was right for the job when God called Him. Like all of us, he gave excuses for his limitations and concluded that being an ineloquent only child disqualifies him. God reminded him in Jeremiah 1:5a, "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart.” He was chosen to be a prophet before he learned to say his name and all his inadequacies were irrelevant to God.
There are more parts to your story than anyone can see, and God looks beyond the ordinary to draft the extraordinary story of your life. Being black, white, a teacher, a woman, a man, a father, a mother, a sister, an American, or a Somalian are all parts to a larger puzzle. You don’t need to be a certain race, a particular gender, part of a certain family, or have a certain job for you to fulfill God’s plan for your life. You are all God needs because you are enough for Him.
Stop listening to the lies of the devil because he has mastered the craft of deceit, narrowing the worth of people’s life to a single factor in a thousand list. He leads them to believe that until that one thing is exactly what they imagined, they are worthless. He alters their mindset and shifts their focus from God, leading them to sum up their life in a few factors.
God does not need our approval for the sufficiency of His grace, nor does He need to consult our checked boxes to use us. He will guide you through the bumpy rides and clear the foggy clouds as you allow Him to lead you. You are enough! Just as you are, and the devil is no match for God’s plan for you, if you trust Him to walk you through life.
No one but God, has the right to define you because all they can see, is a few pages in a thousand chapters. Martha Olawale
