God, don’t worry, I got this!
Martha Olawale
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24
The test of a man’s character is when he feels he’s at the top of his game. It’s easier to acknowledge God when we are at our breaking point, but when the road seems smooth enough, we tend to take the steering wheel from Him, saying, “God, don’t worry, I got this.” A man/woman’s actions toward God and people must be guided by scriptural principles that act as barriers against pride and prejudice.
When we don’t measure our hearts on the scale of godly preference, we open the doors to abusing our freedom as heirs of the kingdom of God and bearers of the mark of Christ. There is a direct correlation between culture and honoring God with how we live and treat others. Ignoring the little nudge in our hearts that cautions us to act differently or respond differently will lead us to a downward spiral if we don’t heed Heaven’s caution signs.
We have nothing to lose walking with God, but we must do so ready to grow and learn as He leads. You can hand your life over to Christ and yet dictate how you want to live it, or you can hand it to Him and allow Him to guide you. It’s a conscious and continuous choice we have to make. Because if a man chooses to be the ruler and lord of his castle, his heart is in danger of sliding down a murky path of “pridetitude (pride attitude).”
Like the saying, “You can’t eat your cake and have it,” you can’t guide yourself through life independent of godly principles and expect godly results. To trust God to lead, He has to be the leader, not the student. We can’t stand behind Him, telling Him where to turn and how to navigate like He is a student in our driving school. Until we live intentionally caring about the health of our hearts, the bumps on the road will trip us to a hard fall.
