Two sides to the coin—God or not God
Martha Olawale
"Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp and said, who is on the Lord's side? Let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him." Exodus 32:22
When Moses went up to the mountain to meet with God, it left the children of Israel vulnerable to going back to their old ways. They demanded that Aaron make them a graven image to worship instead of the God who delivered them. Despite the exploits they saw God did, the plagues in Egypt, parting the sea, and feeding them in the wilderness, they forgot that though they've not seen Him, He is sovereign over everything. Their faith wavered because it was not rooted deep enough for them to triumph without a godly leader.
Many Christians sit on the fence, navigating between their belief in Christ's love for them and their desire to hold on to other things that do not glorify God. They hop between the church and places where their spirit is left bare, ignoring the nudging of the Holy Spirit. Because they've not devoted time to learning at Jesus's feet, their understanding of God's majesty is shuffled with worldly desires.
I hear references to grey areas, but they don't apply to life and godliness. There are simply two sides to the coin: good or evil, life or death, Heaven or hell, and it takes walking with God always (not intellect or culture) to choose right. One side cost Jesus the cross, and the other will cost us eternity. We are all limited to trusting God or satisfying our desires. We either walk with God or walk alone. Even in death, there's no hovering around the galaxies or swimming in oblivion because our choice now will determine where we end.
When Moses told the children of Israel to pick a side, they had just two choices. They could separate themselves from their man-made graven image to cross to the Lord's side or stay on the mountain's opposite side. There was no other ground in between to wait it out. God's offer of redemption is free, but there's no in-between choice for us to sit and swing our legs on the fence. When we accept Christ, we are either all in with Christ or not in at all. Choosing whose side you're on is not a daily flip of the coin. Following Christ means you must live for God, and your life should always reflect your choice.
