A glimpse of Heaven

As I walked into the room that evening, I was flushed with a wave of the feeling of what Heaven looks like. It was the hundredth-year anniversary of my church in a few days and choir members from times past and present were gathered in the choir room to rehearse for the event. It was the first time I’ll be meeting most of the people in the room because many traveled in from other parts of the country for the event. . But somehow, I felt I’d..

Where are you going?

If you ask most motorists on the highway where they are driving to, they’ll probably give you the specific place they intend to eventually stop the vehicle after the drive. Hardly will you find anyone driving without a defined destination. Even if they’ve never been to their intended destination before, they are driving with the aim of getting to a specific place and for a specific reason.

Treasure in the mess

I was watching one of my favorite TV shows the other day and saw over a hundred thousand paid for a book because of its age and edition. I’ve seen Americans pay ridiculous money for things on that show but the love for antiques and memorabilia extends beyond the shores of America. People enter bidding wars over things others will pass as trash because they are linked to famous humans who they’ve probably never met. In fact, the longer they’ve been dead, the more the worth of things

Balancing life on Christ’s firm foundation

Life is like a balancing act. We each live like circus performers trying to walk from one end of a suspended rope to the other. We constantly have our hands stretched out, trying to travel a long distance on a plank, placed on a rolling ball. A simple distraction can send you flying in the air or down a spiral fall and no matter how firmly you hold the balance stick, you need all your senses to make it to the finish line.

Fully and totally loved by God

Before I had my first child, I could not fully grasp how much my mother loved me. I did not understand that the love of godly parents is built so strong that it mimics the love of God for His children. There were six of us, but we were loved equally by a mother who would gladly give herself up for each of us.

Stairways to Heaven’s gate

Walking through life comes with difficulties. It is a journey through a maze of unknowns and no matter how well we think we have figured it out, it always throws something new at us. It’s a journey that starts with birth but does not end in death because death leads to eternity.

The Lord’s Portion

The majestic view of the ocean from the hotel window was captivating. I could hardly look away from the waves rising and falling and the sea of white sands. It was so beautiful and mesmerizing to watch the endless blue water command so much power yet make life seem easier. My few days of vacation were almost over but the majesty of the ocean stays with me forever.

Call me “Christian!”

When people called the disciples Christian in Antioch, it was because they saw that they looked, talked, and behaved like Christ. It simply means “Christ-like.” In Philippians 2:5 Paul writes, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” His focus was Heaven and restoring man back to God. And because we share His identity, our focus must be on Heaven and attracting the world to Him.

The more syndrome

As I looked through my closet trying to pick my clothes for the day, I got a little frustrated because although I had so much to choose from, I could not decide fast enough. It was more confusing than comforting to have so much and yet feel the perfect pick is missing. What is it about us that no matter how much we have, we just keep adding to it?

Who do you follow?

The GPS has revolutionized how we drive. For someone like my husband, it is one of the greatest inventions of all time. Gone are the days when we must use a two-page map or follow a penned list of roads for us to get to places. Using a phone connected to the internet, we are directed in real-time to places we’ve never been before with ease. With the GPS, you can drive from one state to another.

Freedom indeed

My son recently worked on a school project about freedom. When I asked him what freedom meant to him, and where he felt the freest, he said home. To him, home means safety, rest, and acceptance. It represents his place of the greatest sense of freedom.

A dollar for a diamond

In a recent conversation with my husband, we were weighing the best action on a particular business challenge. We had to make a choice that might cost us just a little more than our initial plan or risk losing so much more if we don’t. When we focused on the immediate, it felt somewhat daunting to add the extra cost but when we looked beyond the immediate to see the bigger picture, it was wiser to eliminate the unnecessary risk with a few extra bucks per month.

The Father’s Table

Most of the time, the family eats at different times and sometimes in separate parts of the room but eating together at the dining table is one of my favorite things. It creates the most relaxing atmosphere for us to enjoy meals and laugh together. I love watching the kids’ faces and listening to them make fun of one another.

Mothers’ day: the path my momma walked

As I lay sleeping, I could hear her voice whispering softly near me and feel her hand resting gently on my head. It was another night I was awoken by my mother praying over me. Although I didn’t enjoy losing a few minutes of my sleep on nights like that, it was now a normal part of my life and, I found peace in her tall silhouette towering over me in the dead of night.

A speck of glitter

My daughter told me a story someone shared with them at church to reinforce the importance of minding little things before they become big things. She said it started with her going to her friend’s house for a sleepover. During the sleepover, they had fun playing with glitters. However, they couldn’t have imagined that such innocence could result in an adverse event her family did not plan for.

Death of one, the salvation of all

Mankind was doomed to the grip of hell when Eve took the first bite from the forbidden fruit and shared it with Adam in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:6). At that moment, we were left to wander through the roads of uncertainty to retrieve that which we lost when we were separated from God. Because sin took its toll on the human mind, instead of finding God, we moved farther away from Him.

The value of YOU!

The world is growing colder by the day and people are taking out their frustration on others. They project the dissatisfaction of who they are on people around them. Because they don’t know the value God places on them, they reduce the worth of people they meet to less than the value God places on them.

As strong as your walk with God

The world measures strength by physical prowess, wealth, fame, and connections. To be accepted, you either look the part or pay the fine. It’s instinctively embedded in our humanity to gravitate towards people who seem more put together. If two men walk into a room and one of them looks strong and well-dressed while the other is less “impressive,” our natural response is to give more attention to the former.

Run your race

I really love the Olympics and sprint is my favorite game to watch. I love the intensity and excitement leading up to crossing the finish line. Like the other games, it requires endurance and an extreme level of focus because a little mistake can cause the runner a high price of Olympic medals.

A million miles with Jesus

I was fifteen when I became a Christian, a high school student with little to worry about and a limited understanding of the world. I knew very little about life then but what I knew was enough to endear my will to the love of God. Somehow, there was deep assurance that Christ was more committed to me than any relationship I know.
